Sunbird Software releases latest DCIM software
Wed, 22nd Apr 2020
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Sunbird Software, a provider of data center management software, has announced the general availability of its latest data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software.

The dcTrack 7.1 software includes full support for direct current - 48 Volt power chain objects and calculations.

The company explains that when a load of compute devices is connected to a direct current power chain, dcTrack will serve as an electrical engineer and accurately perform all the necessary calculations to ensure that the load can be handled by the power chain. This could reduce unexpected downtime.

Furthermore, the software now includes support for fuse alarm panels, battery distribution bays, power plant rectifiers, and battery strings.

Sunbird Software adds that dcTrack is able to perform battery runtime calculations based on detailed battery specifications and the present plant load. The user can further simulate future expected load and model the effect on battery runtime.

The software includes new dashboard widgets for zero-configuration analytics and business intelligence, as well as the most important data center KPIs.

Sunbird Software president Herman Chan says the new dashboard widgets help to transform data into actionable insights.

“Data center devices and soon edge and 5G sites will generate a massive volume and variety of data, but many data center managers don't have the time or training to be able to collect that data, analyze it, gain insights from it, and ultimately derive value from it."

For example, the Power Chain Breaker Utilization widget allows greater insight into the power chain, which means data center managers can utilise existing resources and avoid bottlenecks and downtime.

Additionally, the Historical Item Counts widget gives data center managers a simple view of the rate of growth of their asset counts over time and can be filtered by function.

According to Sunbird Software, dcTrack now includes more than 100 dashboard widgets, each of which can be drilled down to provide thousands of detailed reports to help data center managers make the most-informed, data-driven decisions.

Other new features in release 7.1 include configurable breaker derating, international date format enhancements, move items in bulk using file import, color-coded cabinets and contents in 3D view by item field values, edit item attributes in bulk directly in the user interface (UI), and easier impact analysis.

451 Research principal analyst Daniel Bizo says, “As the size and complexity of infrastructure grows, the ability to analyze data not only from facilities but also from servers, networks, and applications will become essential and more operators will look to advanced DCIM software to help.
