HPE enhances GreenLake for File Storage, leading in AI storage innovation
Wed, 6th Mar 2024

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced a fundamental shift in enterprise AI adoption with substantial enhancements to HPE GreenLake for File Storage. These enhancements are designed to power high-scale AI and data lake workloads, introducing 100% high-density all-flash options, enabling HPE to lead in AI storage innovation.

The upgrades to HPE GreenLake for File Storage offer 4 times the capacity and up to 2 times the system performance per rack unit compared to its existing version. These modifications lead to a 2-fold increase in AI throughput and a power consumption cut of up to 50%. Due to a new controller with double the processing power and storage units featuring a 1 RU 1.3560 Po JBOF fully NVMe, customers can now accelerate workloads while notably reducing costs, power consumption, and data centre footprint.

Thanks to these advancements, HPE has further enabled customers to achieve enterprise performance, simplicity and increased efficiency, all on an AI and data lake scale. HPE is assisting organisations in understanding the potential of AI better and extracting more value from their data. It empowers data scientists, business application owners, and IT staff with greater productivity, providing customers with the means to achieve high sustainability levels.

Following the introduction of the latest high-density storage racks, the capacity density of HPE GreenLake for File Storage in their high-end offering has seen a 7-fold increase compared to mid-2023's metrics. Additionally, HPE GreenLake for File Storage now offers up to 2.3 times the capacity density of competitors.

The HPE GreenLake for File Storage solution accelerates businesses' data-intensive applications with AI performance on an enterprise scale. Such performance spans all stages of AI: from data aggregation, preparation, training, tuning to inference. It provides consistent high-speed performance that covers the full spectrum of data for the most demanding and data-intensive AI applications like GenAI and large language models (LLMs). Enterprise-scale AI performance helps extract more value from all aggregated data, speeding up insights and granting businesses a significant competitive edge.

Diving deeper into the solution, HPE GreenLake for File Storage offers features like overload-free snapshots, native replication, superior flash efficiency, and enhanced data reduction via the similarity algorithm. Depending on the nature of the data, savings range from 2:1 to 8:1. With the support for optimised GPU utilisation via InfiniBand, NVIDIA GPUDirect and RDMA, it accelerates AI workloads by improving performance for model training and tuning via speedier checkpoints. The InfiniBand connectivity from the front-end host to networks, including the NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand platform, offers flexibility. Customers can scale up to 720 Po of effective capacity (with 3:1 data reduction) for large-scale enterprise AI file data.

HPE sees the GreenLake for File Storage as more than just a storage solution, they claim its a catalyst for transformation. By delivering enterprise-level speed, simplicity and optimised efficiency on an AI scale, HPE assists organisations in bringing their AI ambitions to life.
